Signbite : Museum of the Moving Image : July 31, 2011

In a fairly unassuming part of Astoria, Queens behind the decorated doorfront of an old film studio building we find a wonderland. The perfect mixture of architecture and signage. This place is so photogenic, yet so down-to-earth. We could have spent the whole day here. The building redesign was done by the little known Leeser Architecture. “The expanded Museum of the Moving Image integrates the existing structure seamlessly with the substantial new addition through a grand hallway which connects the two. It will be an environment where complexity is created from the convergence of imposing, enduring architecture and the fleeting transparency of the filmic image”. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the inside of the theatre, which looks amazing and I have added a few images here from the architects’ website.
